/v1?Usually yes. The value for MonkeyAI is https://monkeytheme.com/v1. Missing /v1 sends the client to website routes; adding it twice sends requests to a path that does not exist.
A client stores a Base URL, then appends an endpoint such as /models, /responses or /chat/completions. Starting from https://monkeytheme.com/v1 produces the correct API paths.
| Field or request | Value |
|---|---|
| Base URL / OpenAI Base URL / API Base | https://monkeytheme.com/v1 |
| Models endpoint | https://monkeytheme.com/v1/models |
| Responses endpoint | https://monkeytheme.com/v1/responses |
| Chat Completions endpoint | https://monkeytheme.com/v1/chat/completions |
These checks were run against production on 2026-08-02 without a real API key. They verify routing only; they do not claim a successful model response.
| Request | Observed response | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
GET / | 200 HTML | Public website, not the API namespace |
GET /models | 404 HTML | Missing /v1 |
GET /v1/models | 401 JSON API_KEY_REQUIRED | Correct route; authentication required |
GET /v1/v1/models | 404 | Duplicated /v1 |
GET /v1/models/ | 301 to /v1/models | Trailing slash canonicalization |
POST /v1/responses | 401 JSON | Correct Responses route |
POST /responses | 404 HTML | Missing /v1 |
curl https://monkeytheme.com/v1/models \ -H "Authorization: Bearer ***"
A valid key should return the model list visible to that account. Without a key, the current route returns JSON with API_KEY_REQUIRED. If you receive HTML or a 404, fix the path first.
Some clients ask for an account host and append /v1 themselves. Use https://monkeytheme.com only when that client’s own documentation explicitly says it appends the API version. Otherwise, start with https://monkeytheme.com/v1.
/v1/v1 by changing every client to the root URL. Fix only the field whose documented behavior adds /v1 automatically. For fields labeled Base URL, OpenAI Base URL or API Base, use https://monkeytheme.com/v1 unless that client explicitly documents that it appends /v1 itself.
A JSON 401 from /v1/models means the API route exists and authentication is the next issue. A 404 from /models or /v1/v1/models points to the path.
Follow that client’s official documentation and enter the root only when it explicitly says /v1 is appended. Do not apply this exception to every client.
MonkeyAI currently redirects /v1/models/ to /v1/models with HTTP 301. Use the canonical endpoint without the trailing slash.
Separate 401, 404 and model errors with one minimal request.
