Feature 03 / Claude Code

Claude Code and MonkeyAI: explain protocol boundaries without overpromising.

This page should build trust by explaining protocol boundaries clearly.

Public-facing wording: if users mainly want Claude models for coding, Cline or Roo Code are often the faster path on an OpenAI-compatible gateway.
Protocol boundary

Why changing only the Base URL is not enough

Claude Code native mode has protocol expectations of its own.

When Claude Code can be discussed

  • When you know the target path supports the protocol it expects.
  • When your docs clearly explain the difference from a plain OpenAI-compatible client.
  • When you are prepared for higher explanation cost.

Recommended alternatives

Cline
Good for users who simply want Claude models.
Roo Code
Similar benefit: fast setup and lower support cost.
Cherry Studio
Better for desktop-first users.

Suggested public wording

Claude Code native mode is closer to the Anthropic Messages protocol.
If you simply want to use Claude models through MonkeyAI, we usually recommend clients like Cline, Roo Code or Cherry Studio that fit an OpenAI-compatible setup more directly.
