AI API Gateway · OpenAI Compatible

Quick Start

Get your first MonkeyAI API call working in minutes. Register, top up, create a key, and send your first request.

Quick Start

This guide walks through your first successful MonkeyAI API call.

1. Open the website

https://monkeytheme.com

Register or sign in.

2. Top up your balance

API calls consume account balance. If the balance is zero or too low, requests may fail.

3. Create an API key

Go to API Keys and create a key.

Example format:

sk-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

4. Configure Base URL

For most clients and SDKs, use:

https://monkeytheme.com/v1

Do not use only the domain in OpenAI-compatible clients unless the client explicitly asks for a server root URL.

5. Test available models

curl https://monkeytheme.com/v1/models \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk-your-api-key"

If this returns a model list, your key and Base URL are correct.

6. Send your first chat request

curl https://monkeytheme.com/v1/chat/completions \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk-your-api-key" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "gpt-4o-mini",
    "messages": [
      {"role": "user", "content": "Say hello in one sentence."}
    ]
  }'

7. Minimal configuration checklist

  • API Key: sk-...
  • Base URL: https://monkeytheme.com/v1
  • Model: gpt-4o-mini
  • Endpoint: /chat/completions

8. Common first-time mistakes

Missing /v1

Wrong in most clients:

https://monkeytheme.com

Correct:

https://monkeytheme.com/v1

Wrong authorization format

Correct header:

Authorization: Bearer sk-your-api-key

Using a model name that does not exist

Run /v1/models first and copy the exact model ID.
