Prepare the client and key
On Windows and macOS, use a matching client from the official TRAE site. Linux SOLO availability must be checked on the official download page; Linux desktop support is not guaranteed. Linux users can use Codex CLI or Claude Code instead. Avoid unofficial installer mirrors.
Create an external-use key in key management. Neither Codex Pro（仅限Codex） nor Claude Max（仅限CC） permits TRAE. See live pricing.
Open custom model settings
Open Settings, then Models, Add Model and Custom Configuration. Labels may differ by release. Record the application version. If custom endpoints are absent, official account sign-in fields are not a substitute. Keep an existing working model available for recovery.
Fill in the matching protocol

Match the provider to its protocol. The Codex path requires Responses support in your release; a Chat Completions-only form does not establish that compatibility. If the form asks for a full request URL, check how that version constructs paths before adding suffixes. Claude uses Anthropic Messages; do not append /v1/messages to its base. Enter your own key privately in the secret field, never in a display name.
Save and inspect
Save the model and explicitly select it in a conversation. Check the displayed model ID. After reviewing cost, you can send a short prompt; no live request was performed here, and there are no verified MonkeyAI screenshots to reuse. Appearance in a dropdown does not establish connectivity.
Troubleshooting and recovery
For 401, check the complete key; for 403, check official-client-only group restrictions; for model_not_found, check the group and ID; for 404 or protocol errors, check Responses / Messages support and URL construction. Use the matching CLI if the custom provider lacks the protocol instead of inventing configuration fields. Remove the failed custom entry or switch back to an existing model. Redact keys, account information and private conversations from diagnostic screenshots.
